Success on Sunday!

The camping trip was a success on all fronts this weekend... We had a great time with the overnighter, and this morning Doug managed to connect on a nice doe.

I'm hoping for temperatures to continue dropping, as today's high was somewhere around 76 degrees. The morning started off in the 40s and warmed up fast, but the cool air lasted long enough to see some action.

It was great to put such a fine finish on a weekend spent with my brother and I'm looking forward to another chance at filling my own tags now... Congratulations, Doug!

Weekend Hunt Coming

My brother and I are heading to the field this weekend, and the cold weather has finally arrived to help us kick things off. We saw the switch get flipped last night with parts of the state dipping into the 20s overnight. The daytime temps are still tickling the 70s, but it's a short peak and the averages are starting to level out in the 50s and 60s now. It's great campfire weather and we're looking forward to having a lot of fun.

Our plan is to hunt a few hours on Saturday night and then camp out overnight. That sets the stage for an early morning vigil on Sunday and a chance to see the sun rise over some beautiful Kansas prairie grass. Right now the forecast is calling for high 40s overnight and mild temps during the day... and most importantly very moderate winds. That can be a rare thing in this state...

Now if the deer will just cooperate and show up, too!
